Yankees Raising Some Ticket Prices

November 16, 2010

The New York Yankees are raising some of the ticket prices for next year’s season. This isn’t revolutionary or surprising. What’s interesting is the process that the team took. Lonn Trost is the CEO of the Yankees and he mentioned in the article that the front office used StubHub.com to see resale values for tickets at Yankee Stadium. The tickets that are getting more expensive will be the ones which had the greatest resale value on the site. This obviously isn’t rocket science to use Stubhub.com, but it is resourceful and it is smart to use everything available to the team. With sites like StubHub.com and the newer SeatGeek.com, teams and executives can get a good read on the actual worth of their tickets and set prices accordingly. I guess you have to think of smart ways to make money when you’re about to sign an aging shortstop to a huge contract.
