Reebok Is Using Vending Machines

November 18, 2010

Darren Rovell describes a new business strategy undertaken by adidas to sell Reebok gear. Vintage shirts with NFL logos made by Reebok will now be sold in airport vending machines provided by ZoomSystems. People who forgot their clothes at home, didn’t pack enough, or may just want a shirt can now buy one while traveling. The more technology develops, the more we’ll see this type of unorthodox strategy to market a product. I personally am not sure how Reebok’s deal with ZoomSystems will succeed in comparison to Apple’s and The Body Shop’s. The latter companies provide goods that are useful for travel. Is an extra t-shirt useful for travel, or should we think of this as another shop at the airport? Perhaps it can be thought of as an expansion on airport retail rather than an effort to provide a useful product.
